High covid-19 case numbers

Dear parents and carers

As we all know, there are currently high numbers of COVID-19 positive cases in Western Australia. Our school’s priority is the safety of our students and staff. Keeping the community safe is a shared responsibility and I am writing to advise how our school is managing positive cases.

Once the school is aware that a COVID-19 positive student or staff member has been infectious while at school, we will identify close contacts from school and advise them of the testing and isolation requirements. The school is only responsible for identifying close contacts that occur during school and at school-based activities.

When transmission risk is likely (e.g. mask is not worn at all times) through activities outside of school, and a family member becomes COVID-19 positive, parents and carers are responsible for informing friends and community members that are close contacts that they meet the close contact definition.

For example, if a child attended a party at the weekend and tested positive on Monday, the parent/carer should contact anyone they interacted with, where masks were not worn for:

  • 15 minutes with face-to-face contact

OR

  • 2 hours in a small room.

The infectious period starts 48 hours before symptoms develop or 48 hours prior to a positive test if the person does not have symptoms. Therefore, anyone who meets the close contact definition above over that weekend should be contacted.

Healthywa.wa.gov.au has information on close contacts, the close contact definition and isolation requirements should you require further clarity on how to identify a close contact.

Please continue to let us know if your child becomes COVID-19 positive, or if your child is required to isolate due to being a household close contact the school on 93456100.

We are committed to ensuring students continue to learn and we will provide learning for students should they need to isolate.

Thank you for your continued support for keeping our schools COVID-19 safe.

Covid-19 at Warriapendi Primary

Dear parents/carers and staff

On advice from WA Health, I am providing the following information. There has been a positive case of COVID-19 at Warriapendi Primary.

They attended the Room 6, Year 2 class on Thursday 10th of March while infectious.

All students and staff who were in the class at the same time as the case, are deemed a close contact by WA Health and should get tested immediately.

The following key dates apply for all students and staff who were in this class:

  • Today (11th March): Get tested, PCR or RAT (PCR preferred)
  • Date of final test: PCR Wednesday 16th of March or RAT Thursday 17th of March
  • End of quarantine date and time: Thursday 17th of March at 3:00pm

Under very high caseload settings, students who are asymptomatic close contacts (other than those who are household close contacts) may now:

  • continue attending school;
  • attend before school care or after school care;
  • attend school-based sporting or cultural training, practice, or events organised through the school and held immediately before or after school at their school; and
  • travel between the student’s usual place of residence and their school.

At all other times, asymptomatic close contacts should quarantine for 7 days.

These arrangements will not apply to children who are ‘household close contacts’ or who are experiencing any COVID- 19 symptoms.

COVID-19 PCR tests can be accessed at a COVID Clinic. A list of clinics can be found here:
https://www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/COVIDclinics.

Advice for all families and staff:

  • The school remains open.
  • If your child was not in the notified class at the same time as the case, your child is not required to quarantine and should attend school.
  • As for everyone in Western Australia, we ask that you monitor your child/yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result, if symptoms develop.
  • If you or your child develop symptoms, please do not attend school.
  • Please note that the Omicron strain can present with less typical symptoms such as diarrhoea, particularly in children.

Move to high case load settings

Dear parent/carer

As you may be aware, the State Government has announced that Western Australia will move to very high caseload settings from 12.01am Thursday 10 March.

We continue to follow the latest WA Health advice.

Under very high caseload setting, students who are asymptomatic close contacts (other than those who are household close contacts) may now:

  • continue attending school;
  • attend before school care or after school care;
  • attend school-based sporting or cultural training, practice, or events organised through the school and held immediately before or after school at their school; and
  • travel between the student’s usual place of residence and their school.

At all other times, asymptomatic close contacts should quarantine for seven days and get tested. As with other close contacts, children who are identified as close contacts should be tested on Day 1 and Day 6 (if a PCR test) or 7 (if a RAT).

These arrangements will not apply to children who are ‘household close contacts’ or who are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

Students are considered close contacts if they are:

  • A household member or intimate partner of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period; or
  • Someone who has had close personal interaction with a person with COVID-19 during their infectious period, including:
    • At least 15 minutes face to face contact where a mask was not worn by the exposed person and the person with COVID-19; or
    • Greater than two hours within a small room or a classroom environment with a person with COVID-19 during their infectious period, where masks have been removed for this period by the exposed person and the person with COVID-19 (note: others wearing masks in this scenario would not be a contact); or
    • Someone who is directed by WA Health that they are a close contact.

An asymptomatic person means they have no COVID-19 symptoms.

If a member of your household is COVID-19 positive, then the whole household are deemed household close contacts and the testing and isolation protocols apply. If your child is unwell, they should stay at home and get tested.

As always, our priority is to continue face-to-face learning. If your child is required to isolate, we will provide them with learning to do at home.  If your child’s teacher is required to isolate, your child may have a different teacher for periods of time.  In some cases, we may need to rearrange extra-curricular school activities to ensure our teachers are in classrooms teaching.

For more information on very high caseload protocols, visit wa.gov.au.

Thank you for your understanding as we take the necessary steps to keep our school safe and open for learning.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school on 93456100.
